that she has been listening
to his old album "Rock On", her favorite and requests
a preview of one of his new songs. Joking that he doesn't sing on
demand, Danny manages to avoid an impromptu performance and tells
her that he does have a new album which was released in Europe,
for Christmas. When she asks if he can get her a copy he says he
will put out some feelers. Pushing to hear more about his career,
Chris asks how he can be away so long from his adoring fans. Replying
that he needed a break and to visit with his sister, Danny manages
to steer the conversation away from work. They agree that they were
both destined for great things and reflect on the dreams they shared
all those years ago. Danny says there is one disappointment he will
always regret and confesses that he has never once stopped thinking
about her and then kisses her.
Feeling a little awkward after the kiss both Danny and Chris admit
it felt great. Danny is aware that Chris has many complications
in her life right now and that she may not want to add Danny Romalotti
as another. Before she can answer however, they are interrupted
by the door bell. Paul Williams is surprised to find Danny with
Chris, he dropped by to run a new case he is working on, by her.
Paul comments to Danny they have not had a chance to catch up and
asks what he's up to. Unsure, Danny confirms that Paul is referring
to his career and Chris butts in that his career is going gangbusters
right now. Uncomfortably, Danny goes on to say that he has an album
out in Europe, recently wrapped up some concert dates in Germany
and hopes to go on tour in the States in the summer and perhaps
make Genoa City his home base again. Chris states that she bets
Gina will be happy to have him around and Paul takes the opportunity
to question Danny about his absent son, who is currently in boarding
school and must be missing his father. Daniel is doing great, they
keep in contact by phone and e-mail several times a week, Danny
replies and Paul states that it's not the same as being together.
Turning the tables on Paul, Danny mentions he hears that he too
has a young son and is there any chance he might meet him, whilst
he's in town. On hearing that the boy is staying with his grandparents
in California, Danny comments that it has to be tough, as it's not
the same as being together and changes the subject to Paul's detective
business and the fact that it has to be grueling for him, as neither
of them are kids anymore. Paul deny's he finds the work hard going
and notes that Danny's line of work is also more of a young man's
game. Danny jokes "not to tell Mick Jagger that, he'd be crushed".
As they are talking about touring, Danny suggests that perhaps Lauren
could join him on stage sometime for a duet, for old times sake.
Paul says that he thinks Lauren would like that as she misses performing.
Danny notes that the more things change the more they stay the same.
Paul agrees and excuses himself after arranging to catch up with
Chris about his case later.
Alone again, Chris remarks that the conversation had been entertaining
and declines Danny's invitation to go out for some dinner. Danny
suspects that she wants to visit Paul about the case and she admits
that as he had behaved himself earlier, she does. Danny can tell
that things are still a little tense between her and her ex and
Chris acknowledges that although part of her still misses Paul,
she knows they are doing the right thing by being apart. Danny says,
that is all part of letting go and Chris reveals that seeing Paul
was a little easier this time.
When Danny drops by the Boutique to visit Lauren he is unaware
that back at his office Paul and secretary Lynne are paying a visit
to his website. Lynne, a big fan wants to find out whether Danny
had any tour dates coming up and soon discovers that his career
is not as successful as it used to be. Encouraging Lynne to dig
deeper into Danny's album releases Paul wonders what Danny is playing
at. When Chris arrives and sees them checking out Danny's site Paul
tells her that he caught Lynne drooling over her keyboard. Chris
laughs and admits she does the same thing, as she accompanies Paul
into his office to discuss work.
Meanwhile, Lauren greets Danny and wonders whether he has a deep
dark reason for coming to see her. Joking, he asks if he needs to
have a fancy reason to come to see his favorite redhead and Lauren
replies she is pleased to have the edge over Phyllis. Declining
his invitation to join him for a drink, due to being dead on her
feet, she invites him to take a seat so they can catch up. Danny
rubs her feet and Lauren is reminded of how he would always massage
her feet after a show. The two old singing partners reminisce about
their concert days - it was electrifying remembers Lauren, a rush
from beginning to end, the applause, the screaming fans, she was
just along for the ride, it was Danny's show but what a glorious
ride it was. Danny wants to know what it was like for Lauren when
it all ended, how it felt when she finally realized that that phase
of her life was over. She admits that she was sad, as is natural
when anything that's wonderful in your life ends but she moved on
because that is what you have to do. Lauren says that doesn't mean
that she doesn't envy Danny still performing and goes on to question
him about whether he is rehearsing and still keeping his voice tuned
up. He's doing what is necessary, he assures her and when she asks
if he's writing while in town and hopes that he's not being distracted
by Christine, he laughs and says he had been waiting for that! The
two friends laugh and Lauren asks Danny to carry her out to her
car.
Running into Paul at Crimson Lights, Chris sits at his table with
him to wait for Danny. Paul notes that Chris seems really happy
and warns her about not getting in too deep too soon with Danny.
Paul doesn't reveal that he and Lynne have discovered that Danny
is no longer a big rock star. Danny interrupts their conversation
and Paul questions him about his plans for his date with Chris.
Paul admits he is there to meet Lauren. Chris mutters surprise!
surprise! as she and Danny leave.
| Later at Chris' apartment
Danny feels as if a wall has come between them when she apologizes
for not wanting to have dinner and says that she needs an early
night, as she has a big court case in the morning. He questions
whether it has something to do with the conversation she and
Paul were having earlier and is concerned that Paul has been
warning her away from him. Danny thinks perhaps Paul's comments
to Chris were self serving but she doesn't think he is jealous
and is surprised by Paul's protectiveness of her against Danny,
as they have known each other for years and would find it hard
to pull the wool over the other's eyes. Danny shares with Chris
that he cherishes the time they have spent together and is glad

to be a part of her life again. Chris admits that when she is with
him, she can totally be herself, not having to step on eggshells.
Danny then goes on to tell her that wherever she is, that's his home,
the one place he was meant to be and that when he is with her, nothing
else matters. They kiss. Chris whispers that she needs to get some
sleep and Danny says that he should leave. They kiss again and overcome
with passion, Chris takes Danny's hand and leads him to her bedroom.
The following morning Chris is up and dressed, ready for work when
Danny appears wearing an old robe of Paul's. There's nothing in
the fridge and when Danny offers to run out to buy eggs, so that
he can whip up some omelets, Chris informs him that she doesn't
have a lot of time and besides, she's too nervous to eat due to
her big court case. Danny says he shouldn't have kept her up so
late and Chris states she's not complaining and when Danny broaches
the subject of the previous night, Chris confides that she's surprised
she let it happen but also to her surprise, she has no regrets.
Seeking reassurance that Chris has no regrets about them spending
the night together, Danny notes that it felt so natural being with
her again. Chris points out that they are hardly strangers but Danny
is aware of the complications in her life right now and that he
just turned up on her doorstep out of the blue one morning. Chris
confirms that she was stunned by his sudden return to her life but
that he was exactly what she needed and has been enjoying his company,
hanging out with an ex husband and dear friend. She tells him that
she hasn't laughed so much in ages and he has made her realize just
how dull and serious her life had become. Danny agrees that they
are indeed dear friends and that he had had no idea what to expect
when he saw her again and says it feels as if he never left. Telling
him how happy she is to have him with her, Chris kisses Danny.
Later Danny's day is interrupted by Paul's arrival at Christine's
apartment. Thinking that Paul must be calling to see Chris, Danny
is surprised when Paul tells him he is there to talk to him and
guessed his whereabouts when he received no answer from Danny's
room at the Athletic Club. Danny says he had not expected to be
at Chris's place himself and finds it interesting that Paul would
think of finding him there. Paul admits that it happened sooner
than he had expected but under the circumstances, he saw it coming.
Danny wants him to get to the point and tell him what is so important
that he had to track him down. Paul knows what Danny is up to, he
says and he is being unfair to Chris. Thinking that Paul doesn't
like seeing Chris with any other man than himself, Danny tells Paul
that he has double standards if he thinks it's ok for him to move
on with Lauren but not for Chris to be seeing him. Admitting that
it hasn't been easy, Paul says that he still cares about Chris and
intends to watch out for her. Danny tells him he can relax, he's
no threat and still believing that Paul is referring to the past
pain that he caused Chris, he informs Paul that he has no right
to talk. When Paul says that it has nothing to do with the past
but with what he is doing now, Danny demands to know what these
supposedly terrible things he is doing to Chris are. Paul announces
that he knows the truth about Danny's career, that it's not the
huge success that he has been leading everyone to believe and then
admits that Lynne accidentally discovered the information when she
visited his website. Defensively, Danny says he didn't realize he
was under investigation and that it's not the way Paul believes
it to be; he's not trying to play games or to impress anyone, he
didn't want anyone's pity and believed that he would be able to
turn his career around. Danny knows that his career will never be
what it used to be but that he has a lot to be thankful for, reaching
heights that many artists will never achieve. Danny realises his
life is changing and it's tough and asks Paul why "he can't
cut him some slack" and suggests that Paul is enjoying seeing
him in this position and can't wait to rub his face in it. Paul
deny's he feels that way and when asked by Danny if he plans on
running to Chris to tell her about his career, Paul instructs Danny
that it will be him who tells her, as he doesn't think it's fair
for Chris to be falling for some out of date image of Danny Romalotti.
Paul goes on to preach that you can not build a relationship on
dishonesty, that Chris isn't interested in his career and it's about
who Danny is as a person. Danny asks how to tell someone as special
as Chris that everything she believes about him is a lie, that he
thought he had it all in perspective and that he feels a fool. Before
leaving, Paul imputes Danny to level with Chris before she finds
out on her own.
